EN 17353
MASCOT’s EN 17353 certified products are workwear for situations that require increased visibility.
EN 17353 is an EU standard that imposes requirements on enhanced visibility workwear for employees who are working in medium to high risk conditions. Workwear that is certified in accordance with 17353 is suitable for employees who need to be seen but who do not work in a place where the risk analysis of the working area means that they must wear personal protection clothing that is certified in accordance with EN ISO 20471.

Compared with hi-vis workwear certified in accordance with EN ISO 20471 EN 17353-certified workwear offers a greater range of optional design colours. The fluorescent material in the clothing can actually have any of the following colours: Green, yellow, yellow-orange, orange, orange-red, red and pink.
3 categories of visibility
EN 17353 sets the minimum amounts, and therefore the area requirement, for the fluorescent material and reflectors that must be incorporated in the products to increase their visibility. The standard also describes the design requirements for the various product types that are covered by:
- Type A, which only provides protection in daylight.
Products certified in accordance with EN 17353, type A contain a minimal amount of fluorescent material.
- Type B, provides protection in the evenings and at night.
Products certified in accordance with EN 17353, type B must either have free hanging reflectors (type B1), have detachable or affixed reflectors on legs and sleeves on long-sleeved types of clothing (type B2), or comply with the minimum requirements for reflective material with reflective tapes on both the body and legs/sleeves (type B3).
